What does "The Roving Oak" mean - what is this? Read on, friends!
Well, often “roving” means wandering.  You know, like the travel bug. For the longest time, I thought that was the only definition and it’s been pretty fitting for my life. Interestingly enough, however, I found there is an additional meaning for “roving.” As a noun, it refers to a strand of fiber that has been stretched, worked, and warped so it can be made into yarn. Yikes, this definition can be made into a pretty deep analogy as well! It literally means the stripping down of something to make it into something more magnificent. We can apply that thought to travel, experiences, and life in general as we learn and grow to be better humans.  Life often stretches us, and we must use that stretching and writhing to expand our horizons and life. We hurt, we throw out what no longer serves us, and we continue to strive for improvement for both ourselves and those around us. We do this while recognizing our individual worth and contributions to society. I think both the verb and noun meanings of “roving” are pretty applicable here!

Next, an oak tree…

At least, I hope that’s an oak tree!

Next, an oak tree represents something solid, something strong, and something to ground us, even something to rest under and abide in. I hope all of us have something to hold on to when we’re wandering God’s great earth in the fun times, and when we go through life’s storms. God has gotten me through a lot in life, and I’ve seen Him work in mighty ways, both in my life and the lives of others. We all need something that gives us roots in this life for an untold number of reasons. Roots can give us reasons to celebrate, can be something to rest in, and can be a foundation from which our whole lives stem from. It’s quite beautiful to think of, actually. And yes, we ourselves can represent this tree at times as we survive hardships, and become solid in who we are and what we stand for. May we all bloom and spread our branches in this world to spread goodness. Trees represent so much, don’t they!

In conclusion…

Yes, the trees were very relaxing to sit under...but keep reading...last paragraph!

So, “roving” and “oak” represent so much of what I’ve found dear in this life and hope to share with you. To explore is to see the world so vividly and with a broader lens, and to explore while maintaining my grounding in my faith is the best way I know how to live. The Roving Oak logo represents a solid tree by a moving stream. It reminds me that we can move through life, either through physical moving or just life’s journey in general, and still rest and be grounded with a source of strength. I really do believe that learning about others (like through traveling), and spreading goodness are paramount to the human existence. So, there we have it - THE ROVING OAK. Thanks for stopping in, and I hope you check out the photos and stories. I also have goodies in my shop if you see something that makes your heart happy :-).
